Multiple Formatting Does Not Damage your HDD!!!

Hello guys, today I want to talk about this issue of formatting the HDD (Hard Disk Drive) many times. Some people say that if you format you HDD many times, your HDD is susceptible to being damaged. Well I think that is a BIG lie.

What is formatting in the first place?
Formatting is the process of preparing a disk/data storage device (HDD, Removable Disks etc) for usage.

How then can a HDD be damages?
Note that unlike many other PC components, HDDs are both mechanical and electrical in feature. So they are affected by mechanical (physical) and electrical damages. Even if you treat it very well, a HDD cannot stay eternally. They are subjects to wear and tear.
So if you PC is having any of the following, the HDD might be easily get bad;
  • Your pc is Knocked or hit by something when it is still running,
  • The electric motor which allows the platter to spin fails due to bad bearings or other components,
  • Extreme heat is not good at all, and might cause fails in the electric circuit,
  • When there is a sudden failure while disk is running.
Now types of Disk Failures you can encounter are:
  • Physical failure caused by the drive parts when your pc is dropped from a height to the floor while it still running.
  • Logical failure caused by corruption of the file systems, or if you delete an important registry entry or formatted improperly, if you have an ugly virus, HDD problems will occur. Your bios will recognize it but you won’t be able to boot from it.
Now these are the signs to know if your HDD is already getting bad.
  • Some funny grinding noises while running,
  • Files just disappear without any reason, just as if it is witchcraft,
  • The computer often freezes and the mouse and keyboard disappear sometimes,
  • When you even try to save a file, your pc slows down even for small files,
  • Increase bad sectors if you run chkdks,
  • Even if you apply speed optimization, the computer won’t speed up.
  • The computer also become unnecessarily hot.
Now, can you rescue some files from a dying HDD?
Yes you can. Make your backup immediately when you notice these signs.
